ABSTRACT

Radiotherapy is an important method in the treatment of gynecological malignant tumors, but it also causes great damage to female reproductive and endocrine function. This article reviews the effects of radiotherapy on reproductive and endocrine function in women and protective methods.

ABSTRACT

Objectives:The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between the of pericardial adipose tissue (PAT) volume and cardiovascular disease risk factors and energy consumption. Methods:From September 2014 to December 2015,we enrolled 152 inpatients underwent coronary artery CT examination due to suspected coronary heart disease in the Hospital on Integration of Chinese and Western Medicine Affiliated to Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine. The volume of PAT was assessment by 64-slice CT, the energy consumption was assessment by the International Physical Activity Questionnaire. The clinical data, biochemical indexes, PAT volume were analyzed. Results : (1) PAT volume was significantly correlated with age, gender, BMI, HOMA-IR, FPG, HDL-C, TG, total physical activity energy consumption, total middle intensity physical activity energy consumption, total energy consumption of sedentary (P<0.05 or P<0.001); (2) PAT volume of patients with insulin resistance was significantly higher than those without insulin resistance; (3) Multiple regression analysis revealed that age, gender, BMI, total middle intensity physical activity energy consumption were independent predictors of PAT volume. Conclusions: Pericardial adipose tissue (PAT) volume is associated with age, gender, systolic blood pressure, BMI, total middle intensity physical activity energy consumption.

ABSTRACT

AIM:To investigate the clinical significance of stathmin 1 (STMN1) expression in cervical cancer and the influence of its expression on the viability and apoptosis of cervical cancer cells. METHODS:Western blot was used to detect the protein expression of STMN1 in cervical cancer tissues, and the relationship between the expression and clinical characteristics of cervical cancer was analyzed. STMN1-siRNA was transfected into cervical squamous-cell carcino-ma SiHa cells. The protein levels of STMN1, STAT3, p-STAT3 and survivin were determined by Western blot after trans-fection for 48 h. The cell viability was measured by MTT assay. The apoptosis was analyzed by flow cytometry. DCFH-DA probe was used to detect the level of reactive oxygen species (ROS). RESULTS:The protein expression of STMN1 in cer-vical cancer tissues was significantly higher than that in paracancerous tissues (P<0.01). The STMN1 protein expression level was not correlated with age and histological types of cervical cancer patients, but was related to clinical stage, histo-logical differentiation and lymph node metastasis ( P<0.01). Transfection with STMN1-siRNA significantly reduced the expression of STMN1 in SiHa cells. Compared with control group, the cell viability in STMN1-siRNA group was significant-ly decreased, the apoptotic rate and ROS content were increased, and the protein levels of p-STAT3 and survivin were down-regulated (P<0.01). However, no significant difference of the STAT3 protein level was observed between STMN1- siRNA group and control group. CONCLUSION:STMN1 is highly expressed in cervical cancer, and its expression is re-lated to clinical stage, histological differentiation and lymph node metastasis. Inhibition of STMN1 expression reduces the viability and promotes apoptosis of cancer cells by down-regulating STAT3 signaling pathway.

ABSTRACT

Objective To compare the treatment effects and side events between chemoradiotherapy and radiotherapy alone for patients with primary cervical cancer. Methods Totally 197 patients with primary cervical cancer in our hospital from 2000 to 2006 were studied. They were divided into two groups: radiotherapy alone(RT)or cisplatin-based chemoradiotherapy(CRT).Group of RT included 100 patients who received external irradiation by ~(60)Co and intracavitary irradiation by ~(192)Ir.Group of CRT included 97 patients who received cisplatin-based chemoradiotherapy. The RT regimen was the same as group RT.Results The local control(CR+PR)in two groups had no statistic difference(P=0.500).The total 5 year survival rate in the two groups were 82% and 79%,with no significant difference(P=0.177);however,there was a significant difference for stage Ⅲ squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix, the 5 year survival rate being 56% and 84%,respectively(P
